Whether you want to snorkel or Segway, kayak or bike, Bermuda’s shore is full of options for the adventurous traveler. Beyond this, visitors who cruise to Bermuda can also enjoy tours, a fascinating aquarium, energetic party cruises and even a rum tasting. Of course, you may just want to relax on the beach and enjoy the Memorial Day sunshine — and that’s okay, too. Take advantage of these quickie cruises to The Bahamas or the Caribbean that leave from five ports around the Sunshine State. Check to see the numerous sailing dates for all of these itineraries.

Top Short Cruises

Carnival Breeze is ideal for a short cruise out of Galveston, Texas. The ship has plenty of activities throughout the day, including bingo, trivia, and live performances in the comedy club. Sailings range from two to nine days out of Port Canaveral, so you can get a taste of what a cruise is like without committing to a more traditional weeklong sailing.

Weekend cruises: How to find 2- and 3-night getaways

January, February, and March are my favorite months to cruise. The temperatures in the Caribbean and Mexico are not too hot, and it’s not overly rainy. The ships themselves aren’t too crowded because many kids are still in school and just had off for winter break. On top of that, I’m from the North East, where the weather is gross, snowy, and cold, so beautiful blue waters and tropical breezes provide much-needed relief from the chilliness.

Most Frequently Searched Cruise Lines

Here’s what you can pack into a three or four-day cruise. Once you see how easy it is to plan a short cruise vacation, and its return-on-investment, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to book one. Let’s take a look at the top short Carnival cruises where you can get away to relax, have fun and reconnect with yourself and your family. Leave for warmer climates from departure points in Los Angeles, Miami, and other cities around the country. Once you reach the port at Cozumel, you’ll have options galore when it comes to excursions. A long weekend bookended in the city that never sleeps means adding big-city to your tropical vacation.

The hotels can get pricey, and the traffic can be awful if you book a hotel in South Beach, but if you stay in the less busy Brickell district or by the airport, it’s much more affordable. With that in mind, I took a look at the possible weekend cruises. I’ll take you through how I decided to pick this specific cruise on the Carnival Sunrise. I had a few factors that I had to consider; the time of year, the departure port, the ports of call, and the ship. With two to nine-day cruises from Tampa to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Carnival Paradise literally takes cruisers to paradise islands. The ship brims with fun amenities like the WaterWorks splash zone and the relaxing Cloud 9 Spa.

With so many options for adults and children alike, this modern ship is the perfect fit for friends and families. Carnival Elation is currently the fleet's oldest ship, debuting in March 1998, and the only cruise ship from any cruise line that sails from Jacksonville, Florida. Even though the ship is small, with a total guest capacity of 2,606, it’s ideal for a quick weekend away if you want a mix of relaxation and high-energy activities. I've sailed the most on Carnival Elation since the ship sails from my hometown of Jacksonville.

PLAN FOR FUN

Consider it a quick dash to the beach — ironic because you have to get to a warm-weather, coastal area to meet your ship in the first place. By purchasing the beverage package, I knew what I’d walk off the ship owing, barring extra purchases like shore excursions, spa treatments and the like. I’ve been on some cruises where I’ve looked at my onboard account statement and thought, “Jeez, I should have bought the drink package.” This wouldn’t be that cruise. That view comes with a tradeoff, though, and that’s the price. In this case, a balcony room was 50% more than an interior room.

Fun for your whole crew

You may even find that short cruises give you just enough time to kick back, unwind and soak in all the onboard cuisine, entertainment and activities. In fact, you can go the whole cruise and never eat the same thing twice. Have breakfast at the Breakfast Grill, lunch at Guy’s Burger Joint and dinner in the Dining Room. Pack your bags for a quick vacation that’s perfect for every member of your group! Our 4-day Western Caribbean cruise from Galveston, Texas will whisk you away to a world of fun and relaxation that is sure to put the whole crew on island time.

It was initially built in 2006, but in 2020 it was “amplified,” which means Royal Caribbean spent millions refurbishing the ship and adding new attractions. It has quite a few restaurants and fun activities like a climbing wall, Flow Rider, ice skating, and laser tag. One thing I didn’t like was that less than 50% of the dining options are included on Freedom of the Seas; the rest are all additional charge venues. Then again, for a short cruise, I don’t think that’d be a huge problem. Looking at the ports these ships were sailing to, I had a few options.

A few other lines, such as Holland America or Princess Cruises, will offer the occasional repositioning sailing along the Pacific Coast between San Francisco or Seattle and Vancouver. Sometimes those short cruises will fall over a weekend, allowing you that quick getaway without missing work. The most popular weekend cruises sail from Miami, Port Canaveral or Palm Beach in Florida, to the Bahamas, with one or two stops in Nassau, Freeport or the cruise line's private island.

If you’re up for a longer voyage, Carnival Panorama has itineraries for you with transpacific trips that’ll have you crossing the ocean like a true explorer. Think nightly dance parties in White Heat Dance Club, movies under the stars on the pool deck, and tacos from BlueIguana Cantina. The ship sails around the Bahamas, Caribbean, and more on two to 10-day itineraries. Carnival Radiance has culinary delights and family fun in spades. If you're a foodie, try Guy’s Burger Joint for loaded burgers straight from Flavortown or Shaq’s Big Chicken for the basketball star's incredible fried chicken sandwiches.

Before setting sail, check out Galveston’s pristine beaches, amusement parks and delicious restaurants at this historic departure port. Another destination on the list of possibilities was Perfect Day at CocoCay. Perfect Day is Royal Caribbean’s private island that they completely redid.

Swim with dolphins, book a scuba adventure or make your way to Sun Cay Beach Club to see Nassau’s famous swimming pigs. You can also spend your day at the largest water park in the Caribbean, Atlantis Resort, or on the stunning beach at Blue Lagoon Island— this tropical getaway truly has it all. Usually, the rationale for refusing is that I don’t drink that much. The thought of having to imbibe up to 15 beverages per day seems an unattainable goal for me, even though I do have a fondness for cold beers, pool drinks and wine with dinner when I am at sea.

That breaks down to $43/night for transportation, food, accommodations and entertainment for one person ($86/night for a couple). You'll have a hard time finding a hotel for that price, let alone lodging plus multiple meals. This line sails exclusively two-night cruises back and forth between West Palm Beach, Florida, and Freeport, Bahamas.

I’ve never had to wear earplugs on a cruise, but I was running on empty and there’s only so much coffee I can drink to get through the day. The first night, our neighbors were very noisy into the early hours. When we ran into them in the hallway, we discovered it was a group of college friends spending the weekend together.

Easily compare prices and find out when to book your next weekend cruise with our cruise search to get the lowest price. In the evening and throughout the next day, you’ll be back at sea enjoying all the ship has to offer. AKA, it’s time to lay by the pool, enjoy delicious meals, and hit the dance floor to your heart’s content. Our getaway cruises to The Bahamas feature stops in Princess Cays, Nassau, and the exclusive destination of Half Moon Cay.
